Students in the 21st century are benefiting from Vernon resident Lebbeus F. Bissell’s planning in the latter half of the 20th century. He attended Yale University’s Sheffield Scientific School and both he and his father headed The L. Bissell & Son Insurance Co. in Rockville, which was founded in 1869 by his grandfather. An active community leader, Mr. Bissell served on the Rockville City Council, Vernon Republican Town Committee, Rockville General Hospital board of trustees (whose Bissell Wing is named in his honor), Rockville Public Library, George Sykes Memorial School, and Grove Hill Cemetery.
He provided for this fund, established in 1971, as part of his estate planning.
