The importance of education was instilled early in Charlotte Acquaviva’s life by her parents, Joyce and Philip. To honor them, Charlotte established this fund through an estate gift after her death in 2012 to provide scholarships to students studying nursing, science, and mathematics – areas where Charlotte’s parents excelled. Joyce graduated from the Hartford Hospital School of Nursing and worked as an industrial nurse. Philip, born in Sicily, Italy, became the chief photographer for the Hartford Courant for more than 40 years. Charlotte was born and raised in Hartford and was grateful for her parents’ support for her studies at The Chaffee School, Radcliffe College and Harvard Law School, where she was one of the first female graduates. Charlotte’s exemplary legal career spanned banking, government affairs and insurance. She had a true passion for helping people; her beloved brother, Sam, assisted Charlotte in setting up this gift through her retirement plan.
